President’s Welcome

Dear Mothers and Guests,

Welcome to the website of the Boston Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated!

This site was created to serve as a resource for our members as well as to inform those in the community about our mission, community service and upcoming events.

Since 1938 the vision of Marion Stubbs Thomas and her action in creating Jack and Jill of America, Inc, the oldest and largest African American family organization, has helped to change the world for African American children.  Her vision was to create a mothers membership organization which would provide social, cultural and educational opportunities for youth between the ages of two and nineteen in order to develop leaders with a strong sense of purpose and a commitment to service. Through her action and that of her friends and the many African American mothers after them, Jack and Jill has grown, thrived and provided the action to positively impact the lives of children, families and communities and to help create leaders of our children. With 75 years behind us and many more to come, we continue to uphold the goal of expanding the minds of our children to enhance their lives through cultural, social, educational, civic and recreational activities.

The Boston Chapter has participated in this vision and action since 1946.  Today, with the national theme “Power and Potential: Parents Empowering Youth through Leadership Development” and our chapter theme of “Back to Basics: Children, Connectivity and Community”, the Boston Chapter is focusing our energy on:

  1. Creating outstanding programming for our children;
  2. Enhancing our knowledge and exploration of the full spectrum of opportunities in Jack and Jill;
  3. Creating greater bonds between us as mothers raising African American children in a still challenging world so that we may use our knowledge, creativity and commitment to create a community that will empower our children to fulfill their potential as future leaders;
  4. Making meaningful contributions to our local communities of color by sharing our bountiful blessings with those who may not be as fortunate.

Our dreams and our work are focused on giving the best to our children and to all children.  Our success is based on the vision and depth of commitment of our members.  With the contribution of the time, talent and treasure of each mother we will continue to fulfill our vision of preparing our children to be leaders and to change the world.  As our Jack and Jill motto says “Let’s work, Let’s play, Let’s live together” as we continue to make this dream a reality.

Yours in the sisterhood of Jack and Jill,

Terry Wilkins
